St. Vincent’s is serious about living as a welcoming, invitational community centered on growing as disciples of our Lord, Jesus Christ. Every day, prayer (including the Angelus at noon), religion classes, the mass, and genuine reflection on the presence of the Holy Spirit is deeply embedded into our culture and climate. We, in fact, close each day by asking all of our students: "how did we see God with us here at school today"? We share examples from adults’ lives so we begin to learn what this means.
Each week, our students attend two masses. One is a “class Mass” with 2-3 grades present, along with parishioners. Our priests speak to each grade in age-appropriate ways, further building opportunities to deepen our faith. On Fridays, we host “all Mass” with all grades and powerful, uplifting music from our jr. high choir – we have a phenomenal music program!
We build on this with regular adoration (every 2nd or 3rd week), school rosaries, regularly scheduled confession times (often every week or every other week), witness talks from our parish staff, jr. high retreats, an ongoing focus on the fruits of the Holy Spirit, staff prayer, staff formation times in our professional time, and parent formation nights offered to kindergarten and 6th-grade families.
At the core of how we live and share our faith, our staff consists of individuals who live lives of deeply committed discipleship. Our staff embodies the truth first shared with our Church by Pope Paul VI: modern man listens more willingly to witnesses than to teachers, and if he does listen to teachers, it is because they are witnesses.” Our staff live as witnesses to Christ’s love and invitation first and commit to the calling of teaching from that witness.
